Remove All Religion from the Inauguration

Louie Giglio, one of the great innovators of worship and a true heart for Jesus, has withdrawn from giving the benediction at the inauguration on January 21.

“I am honored to have been invited by the president to give the benediction at the upcoming inauguration on January 21,” Giglio said in a statement delivered to the White House and the Presidential Inaugural Committee. “Though the president and I do not agree on every issue, we have fashioned a friendship around common goals and ideals, most notably, ending slavery in all its forms.”

“Due to a message of mine that has surfaced from 15-20 years ago, it is likely that my participation, and the prayer I would offer, will be dwarfed by those seeking to make their agenda a focal point of the inauguration. Clearly, speaking on this issue has not been in the range of my priorities in the past fifteen years. Instead, my aim has been to call people to ultimate significance as we make much of Jesus Christ.”

I’m frankly tired of this.  I’m tired of liberals finding fault with the remotest aspects of conservatives, all the while preaching love and acceptance.  That’s as hypocritical as a conservative group asking for the individual giving the benediction to be removed because he/she does support homosexuality.  What’s sad about it is I’ve heard Louie Giglio speak and read his books and articles.  To label him as a gay-bashing, homophobe in the same context as Fred Phelps is ridiculous.  Every Pastor, Rabbi, Imam, or other representative of a faith is going to have said something somewhere about disapproving of a sin.  At this point I doubt they’d even let Jesus himself pray without finding fault with his message.

So what’s the alternative?

Get rid of it all!

Progressive liberals for all the noise they make about equality, love, peace, and grace should be ashamed for railroading every opinion that doesn’t agree with theirs.  And that can go for everyone involved.  Just because you don’t agree with an idea doesn’t mean it’s wrong.  People should be equally concerned that the President is being sworn in using three Bibles and is having any kind of prayer at all.  If you’re that progressive to love and respect all peoples and beliefs, he should be sworn in using the constitution and have a moment of silence led by no one.  But you don’t even hear Atheists complaining about that. Forget historical tradition, the Christian overtones should be removed entirely as non-representative of the melting-pot nation of Christians, Muslims, Atheists, Wiccans and whatever else that our nation is as a whole.  The entire service should be A-Religious.  Meaning, it applies to everyone and no one.

But that’s not what anyone wants to do.  They want to complain and disparage, blaming others for the problems of our society, while never offering a resolution.

“How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye”  Matt. 7:4-5
